edX a non profit MOOC Provider

Of the 3 big MOOC providers, edX is non profit organization launched in 2012 and was built on mitX, a similar project that began a year earlier at MIT.  Harvard and MIT were the first two companies to join and lead in the development of edX’s open platform. In early 2013, Standford university joined edX.

edX stands in contrast with Udacity and Coursera because it is non profit. And , in fact, this MOOC provider formed in response to the profit bassis of Udacity and Coursera .
